Ytterbium doped YAG (Yb: YAG) crystal is a a promising laser material. The crystal is more suitable for diode-pumped laser system. Compared with neodymium-doped YAG crystal, it has a much broader absorption bandwidth thereby reducing the thermal control requirements; its high laser energy level has a longer lifetime.
